As the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Nashua region, NRPC is responsible for transportation planning for our 12 members communities. NRPC works with communities to get their recommendations for transportation improvements into the State's planning process.

NRPC produces a Long Range Transportation Plan for the region, which includes a prioritized list of many projects which are then entered into the State's plan. Recommendations for projects can also come out of more specific studies, such as a corridor study on a specific route or a town-wide traffic study, as well as from an alternative mode study, such as the Regional Transit Plan.

We also assist communities in applying for funding under State-run programs, such as Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) and Transportation Enhancement (TE). Information on these programs can be found here.

All transportation planning activities at NRPC are governed by the Transportation Technical Advisory Committee (TTAC). Members of the Committee are responsible for representing their community and its transportation needs, as well as recommending plans and projects for approval by the full Commission.

Many of the transportation improvement projects that take place in the Nashua region are a result of community input, from officials and residents alike. As part of the larger planning process, NRPC is constantly looking to its members for transportation issues that affect their community. Contact your local officials or your community's representatives on our Transportation Technical Advisory Committee (TTAC) to talk about transportation issues that you feel need attention.

As projects and plans are proposed, the public has many opportunities to comment on them through Public Hearings. Keep on eye on the local newspapers for notices of the hearings, where you can voice your opinion on the transportation system in the Nashua region.

Federal rules require MPOs such as NRPC to develop, adopt and implement formalized procedures for effective community participation to be used during the development or updating of a Transportation Plan or Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
