Every
two years, the NH Department of Transportation issues its 10-year
Transportation Improvement Plan. The projects identified in
the Plan are a result of a two-year planning cycle, beginning
at the regional planning level.
In the fall of every even year, NRPC accepts proposals
for projects from our member communities. The projects are then
ranked by our Transportation
Technical Advisory Committee, based on criteria established
by NRPC.
In the winter and spring of the following odd year, each RPC
works to develop and approve a draft of their regional priorities
for submission to NHDOT. NHDOT
then compiles these priorities from each RPC and prepares the
draft Statewide Ten Year Plan.
In the fall, the Governor's Advisory
Commission on Intermodal Transportation (GACIT) conducts a series
of public hearings, makes any recommended amendments to the
draft Plan, and submits the new version to the Governor.
In
the spring of the 2nd year, the Governor reviews the Plan and
submits it to NH Legislature for approval.
After more public hearings, the Legislature adopts the Ten Year
Plan and NRPC, as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for
the Nashua region, incorporates any approved projects into our
own Transportation Improvement Program.
NH DOT has created materials designed to summarize the planning process, which are available below.
