Mow Down Pollution is a program designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging residents to find cleaner alternatives to gas powered lawn mowers. Mow Down is quickly becoming a national movement and we are proud that the Nashua Region is the first in New Hampshire to offer this exciting program to its citizens.

Due to the overwhelming success of last year's pilot program, the NH Department of Environmental Services, Nashua Regional Planning Commission, Nashua Regional Solid Waste Management District, and Neuton Power Equipment have again partnered to bring you this innovative program.

Your lawnmower is doing more than just cutting the grass...

A gas powered lawnmower running for 1 hour produces the same amount of smog forming emissions as 40 new automobiles running for 1 hour. (CA Environmental Protection Agency)

Each weekend, roughly 54 million Americans mow their lawns, using 800 million gallons of gas per year. (US EPA)

Garden equipment engines, which emit high levels of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, and nitrogen oxides, produce up to 5% of the nation’s air pollution. (US EPA)

Each year, 17 million gallons of gas are spilled while refueling lawn and garden equipment. That’s more petroleum than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez in the Gulf of Alaska. (US EPA)
