One of the provisions in the new federal transportation bill (SAFETEA-LU) requires the development of a Locally Coordinated Transportation Plan. This provision aims to improve transportation services for persons with disabilities, older Americans and individuals with lower incomes.

The plan will identify existing transportation services, and transportation needs in the region. Future desired transportation services in the region will be identified through the planning process. Projects must be identified in the plan in order to be eligible for Job Access and Reverse Commute funding, New Freedoms funding and 5310 Elderly and Disabled funding.

The planning process will be a collaborative effort and many social service agencies and transportation providers in the community will be contacted to complete surveys and attend the Coordinated Transit Luncheons. The planning process will occur this fall and a final plan is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.

If your agency or company is interested in participating in the process, or would like additional information, please contact Matt Waitkins, at 883-0366 ext. 18.
