iTRaC Projects |
|
Communities are busy, often keeping great ideas from becoming great projects. NRPC's iTRaC program can lend a hand by helping implement integrated transportation and land use projects that address growth and foster a sense of place. NRPC works with communities to identify projects that address a specific need, meet smart growth principles, and coordinate all aspects of community planning. |

| Brookline Visioning Project |
Project Overview
Brookline is in the process of updating the Visioning Chapter of its Master Plan. This iTRaC project will create a vision for the NH 13 corridor, which extends through the town from the MA border to Milford. Connections to the town center from NH 13 via Bond Street and Meetinghouse Hill Road as well as the town center itself will also be addressed. Brookline currently has three areas of commercially zoned parcels along the corridor. As southern NH continues to grow, additional commercial development could occur along this corridor. This is an ideal time for the town to develop a vision for the corridor that addresses future development and can be incorporated into the Master Plan.

| Hollis Road Standards |
Project Overview
The goal of this project is to create a set of comprehensive road standards that will guide the development of new roads throughout the Town of Hollis.
The first step involves a detailed review of the Town’s existing regulations. This includes reviewing the Site Plan and Subdivision Regulations, the Minimum Road Standards document, and examples of standards from other New Hampshire Communities. The Town will identify specific elements from these documents that they would like to incorporate into their standards. Special care will be taken to ensure that the road standards complement the rural character of the town. Town consultants specializing in engineering and drainage requirements will provide input on the revised regulations and the project team will work closely with the Planning Board to discuss any existing and proposed regulations. The final products include specific language for adoption into the Subdivision Regulations.

Lyndeborough Economic Development & Equestrian Promotion
|
Project Overview
The iTRaC subcommittee worked to develop a multi-use trail network in Lyndeborough that would connect to trails in the surrounding towns of Mont Vernon, Francestown, and Greenfield. The primary focus of the trails would be for equestrian use. The trail network would serve as an integral component in Lyndeborough’s approach to Smart Growth and would help to maintain the Town’s rural character, which is identified as a high priority in the Lyndeborough Master Plan when evaluating growth. This project would also help to promote economic development, preserve open space, provide access for emergency vehicles, and create a safe alternative to traveling through Lyndeborough on bike or foot.

Merrimack Town Center Action Plan
|
Project Overview
Over the past decade the Town of Merrimack has done a considerable amount of planning for the future of its town center. The Town Center Plan (1999), the Master Plan Update (2002) and the Merrimack Village Design Charrette (2006) provide a wealth of information about the existing features of the center as well as a vision for the center’s future. However, these documents offer very few recommendations for how to achieve this vision. The Merrimack iTRaC project will analyze these existing documents and develop a short Action Plan with specific items that can be implemented by the town to achieve a unified and well developed town center.
The timing of this project coincides with the Town’s current work with the State of NH to develop a new courthouse to the southwest of the existing municipal complex. Once completed, the town can then work towards the redevelopment of the original complex.

Milford Design Guidelines
|
Project Overview
The Community Development chapter of the Milford Master Plan identifies the need to create unique regulations and design standards that will guide development along major traffic corridors to ensure that the town maintains its community character and sense of place. The Milford iTRaC project will begin to address these concerns by focusing on an overlay district along NH 101A between Ponemah Hill Road and Granite Town Plaza.

Nashua Transportation Planning Guide
|
Project Overview
City of Nashua staff formed a subcommittee to develop educational tools, designed to assist board members and the general public with a range of transportation planning topics. Two documents, entitled “City of Nashua Guide to Transportation Planning” and “City of Nashua Guide to Traffic Calming,” have been developed to educate citizens about the basic principles of traffic and transportation planning. The “Guide to Transportation Planning” covers topics such as linkages between sound land use and transportation planning, context sensitive solutions, and the fundamentals of traffic studies and traffic control devices. The “Guide to Traffic Calming” provides full page summaries of a variety of traffic calming measures, including bulbouts, curb extensions, raised crosswalks, and streetscaping.
In addition, four PowerPoint presentations have also been developed on the following topics: the Land Use and Transportation Connection; Traffic Devices, Signals, and Roundabouts; Understanding Speed Limits; and Understanding Traffic Studies. City of Nashua staff will be able to utilize these presentations at board meetings when relevant topics are being discussed.
