Form Based Codes emphasize building type, dimensions, parking location, façade features, and the overall appearance of the streetscape.  Unlike traditional zoning codes, form based codes do not focus on separating use.

Form Based Codes can be used to assign various building types to each face of a city block.  Traditional zoning codes typically result in a single use or density throughout an entire block.

Use, Management, & Form
Unlike conventional zoning, which emphasizes use, Form Based Codes place a high priority of form, while still accounting for use and management.
