Main, Middle, & Church Streets ~ Amherst

Aesthetics & Character
Church, Middle, and Main Streets flank the Amherst Town Commons, creating a transportation route as well as a public gathering space.   The Town Commons has long been the site for many community activities, including parades, fireworks, and a weekly Farmers’ Market.   The historic buildings lining Church, Middle, and Main Streets give the area its distinct character.   Bikers and walkers frequently use these streets and you often see someone you know while on the green.  The buildings along Church, Middle, and Main Streets are all situated close to the road, creating an aesthetically pleasing streetscape.  Tall trees lining the streets, significant green space on the Commons, and a distinctly rural character also contribute to the visual appeal of the area.

Multiple Uses & Connectivity
In addition to vehicular traffic, people frequently use Church, Middle, and Main Streets for walking, biking, and rollerblading.  The buildings lining the streets also represent a mix of uses, from municipal buildings such as the Town Hall, to residential and commercial.  Finally, Church, Middle, and Main Streets radiate out from the Town Commons and provide good connectivity to the rest of Amherst and surrounding communities.
