| The Lower Merrimack River Local Advisory Committee (LMRLAC) is comprised of representatives from the business, recreation, agriculture, and conservation community as well as riparian landowners and local government. The Committee serves as stewards and watchdogs over any activities in the Lower Merrimack River Corridor. LMRLAC activities vary from reviewing wetland applications and site plans for development, to assisting with trail projects and commenting on conservation activities within the Corridor. Communities in the Lower Merrimack River Corridor include Nashua, Hudson, Litchfield, and Merrimack. |

The Lower Merrimack River Local Advisory Committee was created in 1990 after the Lower Merrimack was designated a protected river in the State of NH. As a designated river, the Lower Merrimack is protected under RSA 483, administered by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) Rivers Management and Protection Program.
According to State statute, one of the main tasks charged to the Local Advisory Committee is to “develop or assist in the development and adoption of local river corridor management plans under RSA 483:10…”
NRPC and LMRLAC are currently working to update the 1989 Lower Merrimack River Watershed Management Plan. Local involvement on the LMRLAC is crucial in order to develop a Management Plan that is consistent with the goals of each community in the Corridor and that provides a comprehensive action plan for the long-term management and protection of the Lower Merrimack River Watershed. An important part of the planning process involved a series of four river tours to identify areas of concern in each of the corridor communities.

The LMRLAC is also working to establish stronger relationships with the local Planning Boards in the Corridor to coordinate development activities and ensure the long-term protection of the Lower Merrimack River.
The LMRLAC meets regularly on the fourth Thursday of the month. All meetings are open to the public.
