| Competitive Electricity Purchasing Project Overview | On March 31, 2011 the Nashua Regional Planning Commission (NRPC) organized the first meeting to discuss opportunities for regional energy cooperation. In attendance were town administrators, board of selectmen, and representatives from energy committees. In addition to identifying opportunities for a regional renewable energy project, the group discussed the idea of cooperatively purchasing electricity. By taking a cooperative approach, participating communities would have greater negotiating power and could receive a better rate than if they went to bid on their own. Participants at the meeting agreed that it was worthwhile to continue pursuing regional collaboration on energy issues and the cooperative purchase of electricity for municipal and school accounts was seen as an immediately feasible project to undertake. Peregrine Energy Group has partnered with NRPC on this project, which is currently underway. They will be lending their expertise to participating municipalities free of charge through the Energy Technical Assistance and Planning program. |

| Renewable Energy Project Overview | In February 2011, members of the Hollis Local Energy Commission approached the Nashua Regional Planning Commission (NRPC) with an idea for a renewable energy project. The proposal was to develop renewable energy generation in a location most suitable for it. Electricity generated from the renewable source would be sold back to the grid and the credits would be used to offset the purchase of power in the municipality. By using credits rather than electricity directly generated from the renewable source, the municipality would not be limited to generating the electricity within its municipal boundaries, where the resource might not be the most productive. The Town of Hollis believed that this model would work effectively if it was pursued in collaboration with other communities in the region. NRPC was asked to serve as the coordinating agency for this collaboration. Although our immediate focus is on the electricity purchasing project, preliminary work on the renewable energy project is moving forward. NRPC is currently investigating opportunities for collaboration with Southern NH University. | |||
