In 2007, NRPC was awarded $200,000 from the US EPA to conduct Phase I and Phase II assessments of four priority sites containing hazardous substances in the Nashua region. This multi-step process will involve a number of key tasks, which are highlighted below.

Local governments, project stakeholders, and the general public will be involved in the assessment process from project initiation all the way through ultimate cleanup and property reuse. Community members are encouraged not only to learn more about brownfields and redevelopment opportunities in their community, but also to provide input on site nomination and prioritization, existing site conditions, and future redevelopment possibilities. |
| |
NRPC will begin site identification by working with an existing brownfields inventory completed in January 2006. This inventory will be updated with additional information obtained from the Brownfields Advisory Committee, municipal officials, and the general public. Sites from the updated inventory will be ranked according to priority and the top four sites will then move through Phase I and II assessment. |

NRPC anticipates completing Phase I & II assessments for the four top priority hazardous substance brownfields sites identified through the ranking process described above. Phase I & II assessments will be performed in accordance with a Quality Assurance Project Plan to be developed and approved prior to initiating Phase I activities. |
| |
Depending on site characteristics, NRPC will provide up to four Remedial Action and Reuse Plans for the sites assessed in Phase I and Phase II. The reports will contain site descriptions, community input and involvement activities, results of Phase I and II assessments, and recommendations on remedial actions required and/or redevelopment opportunities envisioned. Remedial Action and Reuse Plans will provide a key information source for future cleanup and redevelopment activities. |
