The Regional Environmental Planning Program was created within the Department of Environmental Services in recognition of the value and role regional planning commissions play in addressing environmental issues in New Hampshire.

Innovative Land Use Planning Handbook
NH DES along with the NH Association of Regional Planning Commissions, the NH Office of Energy and Planning, and the NH Local Government Center, produced the Innovative Land Use Planning Techniques: A Handbook for Sustainable Development. This Innovative Land Use handbook includes sections dealing with development density, environmental characteristics, and site level design. Each of the 23 chapters includes model ordinances and regulations for use by municipalities interested in implementing the innovative land use techniques. Click here for links to the chapters as well as sample ordinances that communities in the Nashua Region have already adopted.

The Lakes Region Planning Commission has developed an Innovative Land Use resource warehouse to facilitate the coordination of education and outreach materials for the handbook. RPCs, DES, and OEP have all contributed to the warehouse, which includes model ordinances, fact sheets, presentations, audio, and more. Click here to view the warehouse.
